What’s new for eCADSTAR 2021 | PCB Design Software

This has been a time of change for everyone. In 2021, some things will be as they were before, but some will be different. In the world we live in now, you need fully-connected, efficient PCB Design Software.

What’s new for eCADSTAR 2021 | PCB Design Software

Check Creepage Rule Compliance in 3D

eCADSTAR2021 2D clearance

Check for creepage in 3D based on voltage differences and standards (eCADSTAR Advanced 3D and Ultimate only).2D clearance is always less than or equal to 3D clearance; but working to 3D creepage rules means you can design more densely, because clearance is measured by its true path. For example, making a slot in the PCB can allow other components to be placed more closely to a high-voltage avalanche diode bias supply.

high-current vias

Override package-based parasitic models.Decoupling capacitors come in many package styles and all of them create different parasitics. Experiment easily, by swapping package-based models without the need to change design data. A bit close to the voltage limits with that decoupler? How about changing it to a 25V? That’s in a bigger package, but will its parasitics give you a problem?
Easily identify high-current vias. High-current vias harm power integrity. Need a bigger via? Need an extra via? The high DC current in this via is revealed by sorting the column on via current. You can then adjust or add vias in PCB Editor (shown above the Power Bus window in this image).
Configure cell buttons.Radiation windowThis button in the Radiation window has been configured to display the spectrum. Alternative functions are still available on the right-mouse-button menu.
Set impedance masks to check and measure against expected power bus impedance in PCB design.
impedance masks to check and measure_eCADSTAR_2021Impedance masks enable you to check potential local impedance hotspots against the expected impedance over a range of frequencies.
Reduce aliasing noise with windowing. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) sampling is designed to work with a round number of complete waveform cycles. This is not always the case and aliasing can make results unreliable. Windowing techniques like the Hann window function counter this effect.
And when you have some frequency domain results, you can now configure a cell button in Analysis Result Viewer to view them more easily.
Configure a cell button for frequency-domain mode.

eCADSTAR PCB Design Software | Design Rule and DRC Enhancements

Choose PCB layer stack directly from Schematic Editor.PCB layer stack PCB layer stack
Layer stack decisions are often made before or during schematic entry. You can make those decisions right here in Constraint Browser as your design takes shape.
DRC options are saved and selected by default next time you work on a schematic.

What’s New for Autodesk Inventor 2022?

What’s New for Autodesk Inventor 2022

Autodesk Inventor 2022 delivers product enhancements, updates and new functionalities to help you build better products in less time.
2022 benefits from enhancements to in-place editing, through to rendering views, functional improvement to property panels and the addition of new tool pallets to provide more streamlined workflows across the entire user interface. Brand new model state functionality across parts and assemblies allow for the creation of part and assembly variants with unique instance properties. You can also simplify your designs show manufacturing processes and more without creating additional files. All of the information is stored within the part and assembly files.

Autodesk Inventor continues to provide a more connected experience when working with other tools. You can now more easily connect Inventor with Autodesk Revit. Save a native Revit project file from Inventor. You can also send Inventor files directly to Fusion 360 to access additional workflows. These connections seamlessly extend Inventor for improved coordination and collaboration.

Inventor 2022 helps you collaborate more effectively.

Autodesk Inventor 2022 | What’s New?

Model States

We know that it is common to have several variations of a design that are similar but different.  Typically, these variations are managed as separate files that don’t associate with each other.  Model States is a powerful new workflow that enables you to create multiple representations of a part or assembly within a single document to provide a convenient way to engineer, manage, and manufacture your designs with different dimensions and parameters, components, properties, or simplification levels. Because variations exist in one document, there is no need to worry about breaking associations between files.

Model states can be used for the following:

  • Machining operations from the casted model to the final part
  • Sheet metal stages for multiple bend operations
  • Weldments for weld preparation and other machining operations
  • Product families that have different values for dimensions or features that are shown or suppressed
  • Alternative assembly positions to quickly switch between them visually or used for drawing views
  • Level of completion for each stage as your design gets assembled
  • Simplification levels for removing intellectual property or high levels of detail before export
  • Bill of Materials instance properties

Instance Properties

Let’s also take a look at a video demonstrating Model States for assemblies.  There is another thing you will notice while watching.  It’s a new feature called Instance Properties.  One of the best ways to increase efficiency in an assembly is to pattern or copy components for other locations in your design.  However, sometimes those copies contain different property values.  With Instance Properties, you can enter unique information for each instance of a component.  It won’t affect other assemblies that refer to that component because Instance Properties are stored within the assembly file.  You can then use the property value to propagate annotations and bills of material.

Interoperability Improvements

Every year the development team finds new ways to make interoperability with other design systems as seamless as possible.  The two major categories for this year are Revit and Fusion 360 workflows.  These enhancements will save time while working on BIM projects, additive and subtractive manufacturing, and exploring generative design technology.

Revit Interoperability

Collaboration on BIM projects has been improved for the ability to save native Revit project files from Inventor.  The entire export process has been placed in the property panel, including the new Simplify command that I’ll explain below.  There are also presets available to save your settings for future versions of your design that need to be exported.

Fusion 360 Interoperability

Interoperability between Inventor and Fusion 360 enables engineering workflows including Generative Design, electronics, manufacturing tools, and consumer product design.  A new command has been added to the Environments tab that allows you to bypass Desktop Connector and send your part file directly to Fusion Team.  Fusion Team is included with a subscription to Fusion 360 and the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection.

It is essential to apply all the necessary detail and information to your design for manufacturing, but most of that detail needs to be excluded when sharing a representation of your design outside your organization.  Instead of doing this manually, try the new simplification tool that will automate the entire process all the way to saving the appropriate file type.

Productivity and Performance

Over the last several years, the development team has focused effort on performance objectives for all aspects of the Inventor product.  Parts, assemblies, drawings have all been enhanced year after year to deliver an efficient experience for everyone who works on complex parts and very large assemblies.

Inventor 2022 Performance

This year is no exception to the work that has already been done.  The improvements to graphics technology and hardware utilization have shown tremendous results across the board with everyday use. For those of you who enjoy editing your parts while working in the assembly, you will find several performance improvements while editing sketches and visibility improvements.  Visual styles use more GPU power to display wireframe and silhouette edges. Opening and closing documents are faster than ever so that you can get to work quicker and close your documents to get started on the next project.

On the productivity side, you will see property panel improvements.  The fillet command was moved into three new property panels for fillet, face fillet, and full round fillet.  This will reduce the number of settings in the panel based on your intent.

Dark Theme

We saw Dark theme last year as a technical preview in Inventor 2021. If you tested the Dark theme out in the previous release, you might have noticed a few items we were continuing to work on.  This now includes the iLogic Rule editor.

Drawing Enhancements

In drawings, you can now change the look of your shaded views by changing the lighting style in your model.  To do this, pick the light style in the model you’d like to see in your drawing, and when you jump back, your drawing shaded view will update to show the new lighting style.  There are new drawing view options available to repurpose the camera views and 3D annotations created in the 3D model.  Centerlines and center marks with extended lines now break when intersecting with dimensions.  This makes it easier to read the dimension value.

Installation and Deployment

Autodesk Inventor and Vault 2022  provide a new installation and deployment experience, which simplifies and speeds up the installation of Inventor and Vault while providing CAD administrators new deployment options.

AutoCAD Web App

AutoCAD 2022 and the AutoCAD web and mobile apps give you a connected design experience. You gain the flexibility to design and draft in AutoCAD on desktop, web, and mobile devices. You can now share and markup DWG files in the web and mobile apps. And with the AutoCAD web app you can now upload drawing templates, plot styles, and other support files to create DWG files that better meet your company’s drafting standards.
In addition to connecting across devices, with AutoCAD 2022, you can connect to other products within the Autodesk ecosystem.

With new Push to Autodesk Docs, you can publish your drawings from AutoCAD to Autodesk Docs and with the AutoCAD web app, you can now connect to files stored in Autodesk Docs and Autodesk Drive. This enables smoother workflows and file sharing between AutoCAD 2022 and other Autodesk products. It doesn’t stop there. AutoCAD also connects to leading cloud storage providers including Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Box, and Dropbox.

TRACE AUTOCADStreamline drawing review cycles with Trace in AutoCAD 2022

Trace improves digital collaboration, letting you work with collaborators on any device. You and your collaborators can markup DWG files without altering the existing drawing. Your collaborators, for example, can create a Trace in the web or mobile app and mark up design changes they want to see. The Trace can then be opened in AutoCAD on desktop, where you can automatically see the feedback in the context of the DWG file and incorporate the changes. It’s a multiplatform digital workflow that lets you collaborate with your team wherever they are and streamlines the drawing review cycle.

Improve your collaboration process with Share in AutoCAD 2022

With Share, you can now securely share your drawings with your team and colleagues directly from AutoCAD. Using Share, you can select levels of access, such as “view-only” or “edit,” and send controlled copies of drawings to your team. You can generate Share links from AutoCAD and the AutoCAD web app. And the links open directly in the AutoCAD web app. Share gives you more control and is a secure way to digitally collaborate with your team anytime, anywhere.

Increase accuracy through automation with Count in AutoCAD 2022

Today’s work demands continuous innovation, and it’s all about automation. Count automates the counting of blocks or geometry to save you time and reduce errors. You can export data to a dynamic table and get updates quickly. By cutting down on manual counting, you can avoid miscounting parts or ordering incorrect quantities. Count saves an immense amount of time by eliminating the block counting exercises within the drawing while removing human errors.

Improve efficiency with Push to Autodesk Docs

Push to Autodesk Docs improves workflow efficiency within the Autodesk ecosystem by allowing you to publish CAD drawing sheets as PDFs directly from AutoCAD to Autodesk Docs. You no longer need to save PDFs locally, open a web browser, or upload the sheets to the cloud.

View and edit multiple drawings at the same time with Floating windows

You asked for a way to view and edit multiple drawings at the same time in a single instance of AutoCAD—with the new Floating windows, you can. Floating windows is a game-changer for your work. It lets you conveniently pull away drawing tabs to view them as fully functional windows side by side, or on multiple monitors in the same instance of AutoCAD. With floating windows, you can do your work within a split second versus waiting to open AutoCAD again and find the drawing. Now, you just click, drag, and you’re done.

Connect to Autodesk Drive and Autodesk Docs

With the AutoCAD web and mobile apps, you can access your files in the cloud. This year, we added Autodesk Drive and Autodesk Docs connections to the AutoCAD web app, so you can conveniently connect to your files within the Autodesk ecosystem. With these new integrations, you can take advantage of anytime access to any DWG file with AutoCAD.

Enhancements and improved performance

AutoCAD 2022 offers enhancements that include a faster and customizable installation letting you even work in AutoCAD while the program is being installed. With the new installation, the typical number of interactions to install the product has been reduced. You can also enjoy improved graphics performance and a redesigned start tab that allows you to easily access files and other helpful content directly from the home screen.
“We aim to create modern, connected workflows and harness automation to save time, improve accuracy, and enhance collaboration wherever you work,” says Marcus O’Brien, Senior Director of AutoCAD product management. “We are working to give our users an unprecedented design experience on whatever device they choose.”

What’s new for AutoCAD 2021 – Quick Measure Command

Paul Tolliday takes us through new functionality in AutoCAD 2021

Hello and Welcome to What’s new for AutoCAD 2021.
We are going to be having a quick look and the quick measure command. There has been some additional functionality added for this release.

So if we go to our measure as before, as we hover over we will see the dimensions, the radius, diameter etc. and now if we want to select an area of an object we can simply click inside and it will find the boundaries and it will display the area and the perimeter length.

So that’s just doing a single profile there. If we want to have the area of this component or this cutout, we can just click inside it and it will give us the area for each of these boundary points but also if we hold down the shift key. we can select multiple boundaries and again we can select that whole component and you can see that the area is being displayed.

So a little bit of extra functionality but very useful.

Design with confidence using AutoCAD software

AutoCAD is packed with new features and enhancements to help you design, draft, and bring your vision to life.

Performance improvements to speed up your design flows, a new blocks palette as well as a fresh new look, are just some of the changes to the latest version of AutoCAD.

What’s New in AutoCAD 2019? – DWG Compare

What’s new for AutoCAD 2019

Getting to Know DWG Compare

The new DWG Compare tools in AutoCAD 2019 enable you to easily identify differences between two revisions of any drawing. This is particularly helpful for quickly viewing changes, identifying clashes, reviewing constructability, and more. Let’s see what this looks like in practice by considering these two versions of a floor plan. What’s different between them? The change is small, but critical.

Not got time to read this blog now?

Fill in the form below and we can send you this blog and others like it.

[wpforms id=”621″ title=”true” description=”true”]

Starting a DWG Comparison

Can’t wait to use it? Let’s start at the beginning: DWG Compare can be accessed from the AutoCAD Application menu, the Collaborate Tab on the ribbon, or directly from the command line (“COMPARE”). The dropdown list provides easy access to current and recently opened drawings. If the current drawing has been saved, it is used as DWG1 in the DWG Compare dialog box. You can also use the browse buttons […] to select a drawing from the file navigation dialog box:

AutoCAD Viewing Results

Don’t worry; running DWG Compare won’t alter any of your existing files. In fact, the results of the comparison are displayed in a third drawing. Three categories of objects (or parts of objects) are displayed: those which are located only in the first drawing, those which are located only in the second drawing, and those which are identical in the two drawings.

This tab has three groups of controls: Comparison, Compare Filter, and Change Set.

AutoCAD 2019 -Comparison

To show or hide any of the three categories of comparison graphics, click the lightbulb icon in front of the appropriate category. To change the color of one of the categories, click on the adjacent color tool. This will allow you to select any color for that category. To change which drawing is displayed in front, click “Draw Order.”

When you click the folder icon, the drawing will either open (if it is found with the same name, in the original folder path), or, if it’s already open, it will be set as the current drawing.

Click “Drawing Information” to display a dialog that contains the identities of the two drawings being compared. From this dialog box, you can add a table to the Compare result drawing with this information, or copy the text to the clipboard for use in other documents. The identities of these drawings (folder path, date saved, and saved by) are preserved with the resulting drawing.

AutoCAD 2019 – Compare Filter

To include text in — or exclude text from — the comparison result, click the Text button. This covers all text, such as block attributes and dimension text. To include or exclude hatch in the comparison result, click the Hatch button. The boundary of the hatch (if any) will still appear and will be compared. The settings for these two filters are saved with the drawing.

FYI: The default is to have Text included, and Hatch not included.

AutoCAD 2019 – Change Set

The first button controls whether the automatic Revision Clouds are displayed. Even when they’re turned off, the change sets remain.

The bottom line of the tools contains the number of the current change set, and the total number of change sets, based on the other controls. Use the left and right arrow buttons to zoom from one group of differences to another.

To determine how Revision Clouds (change sets) combine with each other, adjust the”Margin,” the setting that represents extra space around the bounding box of the individual difference graphics. When individual differences plus the margin overlap, they will be merged into a single change set. Dragging the slider to the left will separate changed entities from each other, resulting in more total change sets. Dragging the slider to the right will merge them together, resulting in fewer total change sets.

The Revision Cloud Shape controls whether the merging of individual changes results in a single larger rectangle, or whether the individual rectangles of each change are merged into a polygonal shape. This setting is saved with the comparison result drawing.

FYI: The default shape setting is Rectangular.
