An independent survey commissioned by 3Dconnexion reveals significant design productivity and quality improvements when using 3D mice.

Improved designs
Over 84% of the respondents said that using a 3D mouse made a significant or noticeable improvement to their product designs and their ability to detect errors.

Productivity Gains
More than 86% of respondents said that using a 3D mouse increased their productivity and that most noted the increase within the first week of use.The average productivity gain reported was 21%.

Payback Period and ROI
Based on an average productivity gain of 21%, the payback period for 3D mice is very short, typically less than one month. The payback period determines how quickly the investment cost will be fully recovered. The calculation is as follows:

3D Mouse Cost / (Annual CAD Design Engineer Loaded Salary x Productivity Gain)

Example
Product = SpacePilot (£275)
Annual loaded Engineer salary (inc. benefits) = £46,875
Productivity Gain = 10.5% (assuming 21% productivity gain but only 50% of day spent on 3D CAD)

£275 / (£46,875 * 10.5%) = .056 years (20 days)

Ergonomic design for improved comfort
SpaceExplorer™ and SpacePilot™ 3D mice feature soft, sculpted palm rests to allow for improved hand and wrist support. The survey revealed that more than 70 percent of users indicated that using their 3D mouse reduced their discomfort when navigating.

About the survey
The survey was conducted by MarketLab, an independent market research company and polled 190 3Dconnexion-registered professional users. Participants were asked to provide feedback on a variety of issues regarding their experience using 3Dconnexion 3D mice in leading 3D CAD applications such as CATIA, Inventor®, NX™, Pro/ENGINEER® and SolidWorks®.
